I found THIS HEATHER BAILEY PATTERN at a yard sale for a dollar! I love how these turned out! They are so fun. I used the sleeve of a sweater (from a yard sale too) for the leaves and actual twigs for the stems. I am happy with how they turned out! So fun!

Pillow Pet Alligator

This is the ugliest thing that I am so proud of. ha ha! I hate stuffed animals and hate pillow pets. This is supposed to be an alligator. I bought everything I used to make it at yard sales. Honestly, I didn't know what else to do with the furry green material. I bought it because they told me I could fill a bin for $5, so I loaded it up! (even though I didn't need everything)

I'm not sure my husband and the men that helped him move this thought it was such a great deal. Our old one was looking like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The kids have LOVED it! I started painting the swing set. It is looking great, but the stomach flu decided to visit me mid painting and I haven't finished yet. I'll add it to my list!

The next week while I was yard saling, my husband was golfing. I thought, "What could be worse than moving a swing set?" I called him and told him that I was at a yard sale. I said that I saw a tree there that I really liked so I asked them what kind it was. I told Brian that they told me that if I dug it up, I could have it. Before I could tell him that I wanted him to go dig it up and bring it home through the sun roof of his car, I started laughing so hard I couldn't talk. He said, "Way to go, Anjie! Are you going to dig it up?" When I could finally talk again I told him I was kidding. "You mean there is no tree?" I guess he was willing to dig it up!

Diaper Bag

This bag was made from some good deals! I bought the black fabric from a local thrift store (DI), the Amy Butler fabric (found in long 6 inch strips. I sewed them together) I found at another thrift store (Savers), I bought the pattern for the bag at Savers, and the interfacing I used is from a yard sale. I did alter the pattern a little bit, mostly the pockets and a few other places to get the max use out of the Amy Butler fabric.

*EDIT*
To make this, I used a thin canvas (not a stretch canvas). I am sure you could use either. I painted the background with acrylic paint. I cut the tree and girl out of felt. I layed it on the canvas and designed it as I went. I used my sewing machine to do some stitching on the tree trunk and her dress. I hand stitched her face. I glued it on with Fabri-Tac glue (LOVE this glue. I use it ALL the time. I may retire my glue gun.) I cut leaves from felt and also from some shimmery ribbon I bought at the home decor store (I use it to decorate for parties, on my Christmas tree, and on my railing at Christmas) I used the Fabri-Tac to glue on all the leaves. After the felt was all glued on, I used a needle and thread to make the rope for the swing. I glued buttons on the tree and green grass. I used rub on letters for the saying.

You could use whatever you have in your craft stash. Be creative!

I gave these rubix cube to grandpas. Warning: they took forever! But, these lavander rice pads, for grandmas, were super easy and are wonderful. They are made with a dish towel folded in half the long way. They are long enough to wrap over both sholders and not fall off. Plus, there are eight pockets, so the rice doesn't all fall to the bottom.

Anjie gave this headboard to me. She originally had ribbon across it, creating large diamonds. First, I covered it with a curtain that matches the ones in my room. I used a staple gun to wrap the fabric around the back. Then, I measured where I wanted the buttons and stapled each place twice to make a +. Last, I hot glued the buttons in place and ironed out all the wrinkles. I love it so much! Thanks Anjie!!!

She spray painted an old lamp and painted the lampshade white. I painted the butterflies on the lamp shade.

My friend bought this at a yard sale. This is what I used to paint the pictures and lamp. The blanket also came with a vallance,mobile, bumper, and diaper holder. She paid $20 for all of it.

I made these for my Mom and my Mother in Law. The signs are on canvas. I stamped the words after I painted the canvas. I also gave them a DVD of my kids. (That is what is in the DVD cases.)

Fun Bag

I got the pattern for this fun bag from a relief society activity. I liked the way it turned out, so I decided to make another. I set this movie beside it so you could see that it is pretty good size. It can easily be used as a diaper bag!

The lining is a different color. It opens up big which makes it easier to find stuff. I also created two pockets that were not on the pattern.

I tried to get a close up of the fabric. It is mostly brown with baby blue and tan. These rings were only about thirty cents and I think they make the bag! The fabric, lining and interfacing was a little more than ten dollars. Not bad!

This was the first bag I made. It is more summery. The fabric, lining, and interfacing was only about five dollars!

The orange lining has a fun texture. I love the big pockets.

Shelf Back Lining

It's nice to see my husband was so happy with my desk purchase!

I bought this desk and shelf at a yard sale for $6! It still needs some nobs on the drawers. I spray painted it in July or August. It was around 100 degrees. Sadly, the wet paint warped the wood around the edge of the desk while it dried in the extreme heat. I also got a sun burn on the back of my neck! Other advice (I learned the hard way) would be to spend a little bit more money on Spray paint. I bought the 80 something cent cans at Wall-mart. they don't spray on smoothly and I had to go through seven or eight of them. The paint cost more than the desk. And I still can notice some parts that bother me.

I think the back panel lining turned out great. I used foam core covered in fabric. (I bought a piece of foam core that was 4 feet by 6 feet. You should have seen me carry that around the store and load in my van without bumping or dinging it on anything.) I cut it to fit, then hot glued the fabric around on the back of the board. It was a little work to keep the pattern straight. I had to pull it along. Then I just pushed the piece back in and it stayed in place all by itself. I used 2 layers of foam core on the bottom so that I can use push pins in it. I think that cute wrapping paper or wall paper would work too.

Christmas Party Center Pieces

I was asked to do the decorations for our church ward Christmas party. We were expecting 300 guests! So I made 28 of these, with the help of some wonderful friends. I got the 2x4 scrap wood from a neighbor who is having their basement finished. We pulled them out of the trash! We drilled holes and stuck these branches from another neighbor's dead tree. ( was out in 14 degrees ripping branches down. The things I do to save a little money!) Then we spray painted them white. We made sure to cover the wooden block at the bottom, but left the branch less intense so that it gave the effect of frost. Then we punched and cut TONS of circles. I bought the paper from a local party store. It is sold by the yard. (the same thing that is used at schools) I really failed to get a decent picture of the finished room. But I used a bright green table runner and set the center pieces every so often. Then, I placed lots of red circles, of all sizes, around the branches. It was fun and bright!

Well, I had many ideas and this little piece of paper shows my sketches. I will try to describe what I did at the serving/buffet area.I pasted this onto large white paper and hung it up behind the buffet tables. On both sides I hung a large round brown circle that had a big cutout tree similar to the one on the left side of the sketch paper.Above the buffet tables I hung these large branches.

After the party was over most of the little girls took home their own little tree. They were excited to take them and I was excited to let them take them because I had no idea what to do with all that work!

I love that I was able to keep the cost down on all these decorations. It is the church's money. I only had to pay for the table covers and the paper I bought by the yard to cut the circles with. About $52 to decorate an entire cultural hall for 300 people!!

Thanksgiving Sign

I found a scrap piece of wood and first wrote this on with a pencil lightly. Then I used a "paint marker" (it is a marker that has acrylic paint in it. it is easy to control) to write the words on the board.

Wrapping Party

Every year I have a Christmas wrapping party where my friends and I get together and wrap our Christmas gifts. It is fun to stay up late together and visit while we wrap! It was fun! Here are the treats!

The mantle. Last year we had an accident when one of my kids reached for a stocking and the reindeer stocking holder fell and stabbed him in cheek near his nose! It has left a nice scar, but we are grateful it avoided his eye or teeth. So, this year I will let the kids hang up their stockings before bed on Christmas Eve.

The tree. I found this tree for $15. I know that is no surprise! It is a little on the skimpy side. I have all the fragile glass balls and anything else that I don't want touched up high. Plus, I don't dare put any gifts under the tree. I usually like to have them under the tree because I think it looks pretty. But I don't trust the one year old, or the 3 year old, or the 5 year old, or the 9 year old! ha ha.

Have you ever seen someone write "LURVE" when they really love something? I am almost to that level of love with these old windows. I just can't bring myself to type it, as if I where saying it. But I am thrilled with how this turned out!

Super Saturday

A "Super Saturday" is a church event where lots of women gather to make things. We also eat, OF COURSE! I used these decorations from my house and made the Pom Poms (that I saved for the Halloween party)

This table was eventually filled with yummy food. The wreath, old window, and glass vase are all from yard sales. The pears I bought at Target last year on clearance. The pumpkins were free from a garden!

Halloween Party!

The ghosts are Nutterbutters dipped in white almond bark. The eyeballs are crushed Oreo cookies mixed with cream cheese for the center. Then I dipped them in the white almond bark and used colored chocolate melts to make the "pupil". I also sprinkled red sprinkles for an irritated eye look. The orange pumpkins where just the orange chocolate melts poured into a pumpkin mold.

I copied these pumpkins from the Pottery Barn. I used foam sheets and toothpicks to stick them in the pumpkins.This is a lamp from IKEA that I added to black dots to make it look like a ghost.Disco light that I bought for $.50 at a yard sale.

I made these without any sewing. I used hemming tape to hem the fabric. I used Velcro to attach the fabric to the board. And I used L brackets to attach the boards to the walls. I had extra boards from when my basement was finished. I was inspired by THIS.

I have been finding some great things lately, but haven't posted many of them because I have them hidden! I am saving them for Birthdays or Christmas. I have also stocked my "prize cupboard" with fun things. But here are some photos of a few things.

Reagan's new shoes were $.50. I love them. (Actually, everything he is wearing is from yard sales.)

I bought six of these old windows for $20. My 4 year old asked me what I was going to do with all those windows. I told her I was going to hang them on the wall. She looked confused. Then said, "And you won't see outside? That is weird." I guess it kind of is, but I am excited about it.

Did any of you listen to Janeen Brady's music when you were little? I found the whole set! The Safety kids, the Stand'n Tall, all of it! I bought it mostly for sentimental reasons. They are old cassette tapes. But the songs have brought back such great memories! When I put the tape in and listened to "See me run" with my kids and kind of teared up. Such sweet songs. I remember "whirling" around to them. Also, look at the right of that picture with all the cutouts. It's Obama! Wow, Janeen was ahead of her time.
A race track that Reagan loves playing with. I can't remember what I paid. It was $1 or $2.

Back to Basic's Night Center Pieces

These center pieces were for our church enrichment activity. It was kind of a back to school night but broader than that to include those with out back to school age kids. We had dinner, a clothes swap, a quilt set up to work on, and mini classes. Some of the classes were:

Quick and easy hair (taught by a gal in the ward who does hair. This was a fun and popular class)
Coupon shopping (taught by two ladies who are experts. They showed us all the cool web sites and tricks)
Back to School tips (taught by a school teacher)
Indexing (taught by some ward members who know how. Our ward has been on fire, indexing over 110,000 names since June 2009. My husband has done nearly 4000 names!)

I also did a display on the stage and forgot to take a picture. I think these center pieces could have been simplified and been just as cute or cuter. I had brainstormed and made a list of all the items that could work. Then I gathered as many as I could find. I used black butcher paper for the chalkboard look. I could have cut up some black poster board if I wanted it to be more substantial. Here is the list of all the items I had thought of.

It keeps your ice cold

I bought this last week at a yard sale. Isn't it ugly?? It holds ice and is insulated. I paid a $1 for it.

I spray painted it and like it a lot better now. I think I might put the word "ice" in black letters on the front. Maybe then people will know what it is when I set it out for a barbecue.

EDIT: Here it is with the word "ice". I used some black rub-on letters that I had.

Cake Pops

I saw these HERE and had to try it out for a baby shower I am throwing tomorrow. These are really REALLY yummy. But they are also time consuming. I felt like it was a lot of work for food that was going to make me fat. (Shouldn't I spend the afternoon working on food storage?) Did I mention they are delicious? I am not much of a baker. I thought I better put them on here to document that I actually made the effort.

Tag/ Ribbon Blankie

I made this in about 20 minutes with leftover flannel and extra ribbon. It was so easy! Aubryn helped by picking out ribbon and pushing the pedal on the sewing machine. She was so proud of herself. I got the idea from nanny goat. (hers is cuter!)

A friend of mine made a room into a massage therapy room in her house and asked me to paint something that matched the stuff she already had. She bought the canvases at Big Lots for $3 each. I looked at her pillow and curtains and painted the following paintings. I have not seen them hung on her walls yet. I need to get there soon for a massage!

Shower Curtain Extention

Before we moved into this house I bought this shower curtain on clearance at Target. I really liked it! I decided to use it as the decorating start for my master bedroom and bathroom. Well, after we moved in, it turned out that my shower and tub were bigger than the standard. And now, almost 2 years later, I finally did something about it.

It is hard to see in that picture how short the curtain really looks.

I bought some fabric that I liked with the curtain . I cut two 14 inch strips and sewed them together. Then I hemmed it with hemming tape. Have you ever used that? You just fold over the fabric, put the tape between, and iron it. Then it is hemmed! (look really close in the picture below. There is hemming tape being sandwiched there.) I took this newly hemmed piece of fabric and sewed it to the top of my shower curtain. Is this making any sense?

This next picture is looking down on my ironing board. I cut small pieces of ribbon, put hemming tape at one end, folded it, and ironed it. Then I had 12 little loops that I sewed on the top, back of the new top of my shower curtain. These are what I used to hang the shower curtain with. I sewed them a couple inches down, so that when it is hung you do not see them.

After I teetered on the edge of the bath tub and hung it up, I thought it would have looked really nice to have a thin black stripe where the fabrics meet. But it was 1:30 a.m. Maybe another day, or night.

Refinishing the Dining Table and Chairs

I ordered this brand new dining table. I was really excited for it to come in! I was also a little nervous. I wasn't sure of the exact wood finish. But the picture looked great. It was a gamble. I lost. Here is what the table looked like:

So, I gathered my nerve, gave myself a pep talk, and went at it! I took the sander to my brand new table! I am happy with the color, but for some reason the "satin" finish is very glossy still. I am glad I didn't buy the "high gloss" finish or I would have to buy sunglasses for everyone to wear to dinner. I refinished all the chair seats, stool seats, and bench seat too. The legs and the backs of the chairs are an "espresso" finish. They are a very dark brown. The table looks so much better in my house now. The reddish/orange really made my cabinets look gray.

Yard Sales!!

Some cute clothes. They all fit well except the cream jacket. It was a little big.

I bought this hand stitched table cloth with eight napkins for $4! It is kind of sad to go to an estate sale and walk through someone's home. The cupboards were open and everything in the house was for sale.

These old books were from another sale. I paid $2 for all of them and a doll. They are from the early 19oo's.

I also found an old suitcase that I put on the shelf in the basement, some Polly Pockets for .50, books for Brad, a princess book, two dress-up dresses that were in perfect shape (Jasmine and a fancy generic one), and a few other items. It was fun!! I am excited that yards sale season is back!

Cheap stuff in the Living Room

That white thing on the wall is from Ross and was on clearance. It was just a couple dollars. The end table is from Bukoos. It is one of 3 I bought for $25. The curtains are from Big Lots (around $10). The sheers are from a yard sale. The chair and sofa I price matched. I called every furniture store in the area. I found the cheapest price and called the one store who offers free delivery and ordered it through them. I saved so much. The store is Sparrow's, for any of you in the area. They have super service and free delivery. Every other furniture store charges about $60 to deliver. (Believe me, I called them all).

The mirrors are from all over. Big Lots, Walmart, Ross, and T.J. Maxx. The framed leaves were something I bought years ago for my old house. They were not a super deal, but not too bad. About $10 a piece.

The painting was painted by me. It is of the Idaho Falls temple, which is where we were married. The sticks are from a yard sale, $2. The tile with the quote on it was a gift from a thoughtful neighbor. The other thing next to it was $1 at a yard sale. Even the hymn book is from a yard sale. The piano was purchased from an ad in the paper. It was $1000. The white lamp is from Walmart. The piano lamp is from Target. Neither of them were even on sale! I just bought them because I needed them. Totally out of character for me. he he. The basket on the floor next to the piano has Brad's piano books in it. I bought it at a yard sale for just a couple dollars and it was full of fun stuff for my kids.

Suits!!

I found these two suits for my husband at Target yesterday! They were on the clearance rack. I paid $24.99 for the jackets and 12 something for the pants. They are nice! We have bought expensive suits and suits from Target before. We both think the Target suits held up better. I like the way they fit him. He looked so sharp when he left for work this morning. This was at the Target in Layton. They had others that were half the cost of what we bought, but they were in the wrong size. So go check it out!

I buy shower caps at the dollar store (usually 8 in a pack) and use them to cover food. They stretch to fit all kind of containers. They are great for watermelons after you have sliced one end.

Cheap stuff in Girl's Room

The stove and sink piece are from a yard sale. It was $8. I painted it. The little cupboard and high chair were mine when I was little. I repainted it. I put hardware on them from an old dresser I got rid of. The table and chairs are from IKEA.

I painted a board yellow and then glued these flower holders that I bought at a yard sale. We hang her dress up clothes on it. The blue frame was a wedding gift. I painted it blue and we framed some pictures from Disneyland.

I painted another board ( I have lots of scraps from when we finished our basement) and painted the word "Dream" on it. I put some flowers from my scrapbooking stuff on it. The lamp is from a yard sale.

I painted these squares and stamped these words on them. I sanded the edges. I cut out the flowers and tied ribbon through the holes. These are hung above her window. I have a piece of red fabric hung with thumb tac's as a cover for now. I haven't figured out her window treatments yet.
The paintings of the flowers were painted by me on some canvases I picked up at a yard sale. I made the pillows out of remnants I bought at Walmart. The Cinderella pillow is from a yardsale. It was $.25! The light is from IKEA. It was about $40.

Cheap Stuff Around My House

These pictures of my kids (I need to add one more!) were made from some snapshots I took of my kids. I cropped them so you can't see the background. I picked ones that I liked their expressions. Then I took them to Walmart and had them made into 8 x 10 and black and white. I bought the frames at Walmart too. I'm thinking they were $3.

The sign above the photos was a board that I painted and used clear letter stamps to put the quote on it.

I inherited this canning table from my Grandmother. It was made by her father. I painted it blue. It was really distressed. I added some crackling in a few spots and sanded around it to keep the aged look.

If you want to crackle paint, you can do it with elmer's glue. Paint the glue on. While it is still wet, paint the color on top. As it dries, it crackles. I used a heat gun to speed it along. But remember to keep it moving. I held the heat gun in one spot to long and it made some bubbles in the paint.
The "Family" sign was found at a yard sale for just a few dollars. The pitcher was a Ross clearance item. The black plates are from Tia Pan. The little boy is priceless!
See the fireplace guard? I found that at a yard sale for $3! The wreath too. I think it was $2. The "Bless this Home" was stamped by me. The board that I stamped it on was from a yard sale. If you flip it over it says, "Happy Holidays."

The curtains were found at Ross. They were $8 a panel. I had found three and was looking for the fourth. I couldn't find one in the store. My sister was with me. I asked her if she thought that praying to find a curtain panel would be bad. She wasn't sure. I said a prayer anyway. With in moments she found the fourth panel! We found it in the sheets isle. My prayer was answered. How great is that?
The painting in this photo was painted by me. I bought the canvases at Hobby Lobby with coupons. Then I bought a long skinny board at Lowes, painted it, cut it, and staple gunned it around the painting for the frame. (With my husbands help)

The pillows are from Ross and Family Dollar. None of them cost more than $8. The walnut wood shelf is from Kmart. It was around $80. And the end table you can barely see on the left is from Bookoos. I paid $25 for 3 of them.

Fake Wii

I found this "fake Wii" at the local grocery store, Wangsgards. It was $29.99!!! It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but is fun. It includes 5 sport games: golf, baseball, bowling, tennis, and boxing. It works great. You cannot buy new games for it. It comes with two controllers. We have really enjoyed it for the price!

Honk's

Do you have a Honk's Dollar store near you? (By the way, isn't that the worst name for a store?) Next Tuesday they are having a $.88 day. Everything in the store is only $.88! The store in Ogden had tables at the front of the store with miscellaneous items for 2/$1.00. I bought wood flower and butterfly frames for Aubryn to paint from the table and the bag was only $.44! And it had the paint too. I thought that would be a great craft for Activity Days or other young girls. I also bought other things I use a lot. Like, 4/pack GE light bulbs, aluminum foil, and plastic table clothes. It only lasts through the January Tuesdays!

Magic Question

I recently ordered hardware for my kitchen cabinets. We have lived in our home for a year and a half. I am really excited to have hardware! When I found what I wanted, I waited. I knew it would add up. But last week I went in and ordered them! After I was quoted the price of each nob and drawer pull I asked the hardware store employee, "Is that the best you can do on the price?" Wall-AH! He said, "I can take a dollar off each." So, I ordered 13 drawer pulls and 28 nobs. (adding in my head) I saved $41 just by asking that question.
